Masterworks: Unpacking Fashion @ Met Fifth Avenue

The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York is preparing its next exhibition "Masterworks: Unpacking Fashion".

The exhibition will open on the 8th of November and it will be a showcase of silhouettes, techniques, trends and materials from the early 18th century to the present. Including iconic works by designers who have changed fashion history and advanced fashion as an art form. To me all pieces of art!

First looks of the exhibition, like the ball gown of Viktor & Rolf, the dress by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, the amazing butterflies on Jean Philippe Worth's gown and impressive embroidery by Raf Simons for House of Dior.

KENZO x H&M Meet the tiger!

Bold print, colour and individuality are revealed in the first looks of the KENZO x H&M collection to be available from November 3. Oliver Hadlee Pearch captured Amy Sall, Juliana Huxtable, Isamaya Ffrench and Oko Ebombo, for the look book images.

Each look is bursting with tiger prints, colour and individuality that define the collaboration. The look book images have been shot on a variety of artists, young creatives and influencers, each an ambassador for KENZO x H&M.

AMY SALL (student and activist, based in New York, founder of SUNU: Journal of African Affairs, Critical Thought + Aesthetics) & JULIANA HUXTABLE (artist, poet and DJ, 28, based in New York) both wear: tiger print jersey rollneck tops and matching high waisted leggings along with long black leather gloves with pink logo rubber print and jacquard knitted tiger-sock shaft boots.

ISAMAYA FFRENCH (make-up artist, based in London and part of the London-based collective, Theo Adams Company) wears: an oversized leather jacket with pink faux Shearling lining, with matching tiger print jersey rollneck top and high waisted leggings.

OKO EBOMBO (musician and performance artist, based in Paris, front-man of the band 19) wears: a parka with removable printed collar, block colour tiger-print jeans, plus the padded flip-flops with tabi socks. Oko also wears the tiger-printed cap with attached scarf, a printed woven scarf and the tiger-printed cross-body bag.

The collection will be available in over 250 selected H&M stores worldwide, as well as online, from November 3.

Jef Montes' Tormenta @ Fashion Week Amsterdam

My expectation of Jef Montes experience during the 25th Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Amsterdam was high. During the previous edition of Amsterdam Fashion Week Jef Montes presented an impressive show with water soluble fabrics, read here more on it!

This time the atmosphere was very different, frightening, scaring. The sound was bringing us in this mood, we had to wear dust masks, the room was protected by plastic as Jef Montes was tormented.

His presentation was called Tormenta, instead of models he used plastic mannequins, wearing items of his collection resolver.

He started by spraying water on his dress, followed by pouring white paint on a dress and finally throwing black gunk...

It was a strange experience, for me nothing to do with the glamour of fashion week but Jef Montes' personal expression of art meeting fashion.

But it was fun to see the audience putting on their dust masks and taking selfies!

Scroll down to see the film of tormented Jef Montes in action!

SUE's warriors of the new revolution @ Fashion Week Amsterdam

Warriors of the New Revolution was the theme of Kelly Sue Fashion Show during the 25th Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Amsterdam.

The show by SUE featuring VJR jewels was about making a change, about broadening your horizon, about opening your eyes. There is more, it is bigger. It is time for a change.
Beauty is everywhere, diversity is the key to unity.

Kelly Sue brought the audience to silence, Roos Prommenschenkel opened the show wearing a a blouse and trousers especially designed for wheelchair users. Each model showed something unique, it was very impressive.

I loved the styling, showing power, combativeness and temperament, the real warriors of a new revolution.
The jewellery by VJR jewels, designed and restyled by Marianne Moerman created the total look.

The wheelchairs of Progeo were pimped by Roos Prommenschenckel.

The key items of Sue's collection are the trenchcoat, the jeans, basic tops, blouses and a pencil skirt.
The patterns are created in a way to provide comfort while sitting all day. The fabrics are elastic and breathable.
A real wheelchair fashion collection, patterns, fabrics and looks are considered excellent!

Liselore Frowijn @ Fashion Week Amsterdam

Liselore Frowijn showed her spring-summer 2017 collection during Amsterdam Fashion Week.
In collaboration with Royal Flora Holland the dutch designer turned the catwalk into a exotic flower garden.

The models had to walk though a jungle of colourful flowers taking us on a journey to an exotic place.
Liselore Frowijn was inspired by the Igbo, a population in the south of Nigeria. Always dressed up colourful, like Liselore's latest collection. Inspiring prints and attractive colour combinations.

The hairstyling during the show was breathtaking, Sarah Dikker, winner of the contest Best Flower Stylist, did an amazing job! Sarah Dikker also decorated the runway with six trees full of exotic flowers.

Here a glimpse of the collection.

After the show the fashion crowd had the opportunity to have a closer look at Liselore Frowijn's designs.

Amsterdam Fashion Week - A glimpse of day 4

The fourth day of the 25th Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Amsterdam started with an impressive show by SUE feat. VJR jewels.

Kelly Sue and VJR jewels brought the audience to silence, for the first time I visited a fashion show where the audience was so quiet. Her statement 'Diversity is the key to unity' is clear. Beauty is everywhere! More in a following post as in this post I only give a glimpse of the shows of yesterday!

After SUE the fashion show of Given was a bit disappointing.

ILKECOP showed creativity and a lot of colours, Merel van Glabbeek presented some interesting masks in a total black collection.
The models of Zyanya Keizer walked on water, Sunandra Chandry Koning showed diversity and I loved the handbags of Les soeurs rouges.
