During my visit at the exhibition 'Edvard Munch, Beyond the Scream' at museum Herakleidon I was wondering the influence of this artist on fashion. Searching the web I found this photo as part of a serie photos imitating art works for Vogue Korea.
Park Myung Su, a Korean comedian, posing with clothing by Korean designers Wooyoungmi and Chang Kwang Hyo and a scarf by Hermes, photographed by Barley. (http://www.style.co.kr/)
And the source of inspiration..
The scream is probably one of his most famous paintings. Edvard Munch used his art to express his feelings, he once said “In my art I have tried to explain to myself life and its meaning”.
He was also an artist in finding new print methods. At the museum you can see 80 graphic works. The most impressive ones for me are The brooch. Eva Mudocci and the Madonna.
In her fall 2007 collection, Carolina Herrera was inspired by one of the paintings of Munch. But also Sonia Rykiel is in a way related to Munch: "Entering Sonia Rykiel's Left Bank flat is like stepping into an Edvard Munch painting. The walls and ceilings are lacquered black, most of the furniture and upholstery is black, and in the middle of it all, in a long black dress, is a pale small-boned face surmounted by an angry splash of red hair: Sonia Rykiel." (The lead of the article at: http://fashion.telegraph.co.uk/)
Munch’s voyage into his soul has given the world unique masterpieces of art.
Which fashion designer can claim this?
The exhibition of Edvard Munch is until the 27th of February at Museum Herakleidon. (http://www.herakleidon-art.gr/).
