It started with the New Look - Will Marc be the successor?

In 1947 Christian Dior launches the Corolle collection. Carmel Snow, editor of Harper's Bazaar says: "Your dresses have such a new look" and  the 'New Look' name was born. Since than the fashion world is talking about the New Look by Dior.

Christian Dior (1905 to 1957) became the most influential fashion designer of the late 1940s and 1950s. He dominated fashion after World war II with the hourglass silhouette of his New Look. He also defined a new business model in the post-war fashion industry by establishing Dior as a global brand across a wide range of products.

Pierre Cardin worked as the head of Christian Dior atelier in from 1947 to 1950 and than started his own house.

Starting as assistant in 1954, Yves Saint Laurent became creative director after the death of Dior,  until 1958. Followed by Marc Bohan (1958-1989), Gianfranco Ferré (1989 - 1997) and John Galliano (1997 - Fall 2011).
At the moment there is a whispering that Marc Jacobs will be the next creative director...
