iNDiViDUALS and the People of the Labyrinths open 18th edition Amsterdam Fashion Week

The Opening night of the 18th edition of Amsterdam Fashion Week on Wednesday the 23rd of January 2013 will be done by iNDiViDUALS and the People of the Labyrinths.
With this opening Amsterdam Fashion Week programs a special night with collections of promising students and of an internationally renowned Dutch fashion brand.

iNDiViDUALS
iNDiViDUALS is an initiative of AMFI-Amsterdam Fashion Institute and the Hogeschool van Amsterdam. iNDiViDUALS is a platform for fashion creativity and for new fashion talent of the AMFI-Amsterdam Fashion Institute. Twice a year, a new generation of fashion designers adds a chapter to the iNDiViDUALS story. A seasonal collection is produced and presented in selected stores throughout the Benelux. With the Autumn/Winter Collection, iNDiViDUALS will for the first time take care of the opening of Amsterdam Fashion Week. This collection creates certainty within the uncertain and portrays a survival through a magnetic attractive force of angular and curved shapes. A mix of unconventional materials reveals the contemporary protection. Every item explains itself, builds up a positive tension and strengthens the wearer. A hint of artificiality emphasizes the evolution of the crucial details in the design.
The People of the Labyrinths
After they completed their studies in 1983 at the fashion department of the academy of arts in Arnhem, the Netherlands, Hans Demoed and Geert de Rooij started a company specialized in styling and fashion design. Their fascination for antique labyrinths and modern ones (e.g. microchips and fingerprints) has been a great inspiration for their work. Labyrinths are seen as metaphors for a society more and more structured and yet inaccessible and elusive. The label ‘the People of the Labyrinths’ reaches a small, but loyal public. The exclusiveness is guaranteed by a complicated, laborious production process, which includes hand-printed and hand-dyed fabrics and garments. The design, prints and colours have their own individual handwriting which gives that special People-DNA through the collections.

Carlo Wijnands, Programme Director of Amsterdam Fashion Week, explains the selection of these two fashion brands: “I have chosen iNDiViDUALS because this brands stands for creative business, an exploring style and the combination with education. The deciding factor for my choice for The People of the Labyrinths was its luxurious craftsmanship with an iconic value.”
