On the 12th of July, the 19th edition of Amsterdam Fashion Week opens its catwalk programme with SIS by Spijkers en Spijkers and MaryMe-JimmyPaul.
With the choice for the inseparable twin sisters and the French/Dutch design duo that graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie, Amsterdam Fashion Week gives the stage to talented and innovating fashion designers.
Everyone can watch the shows live via the freely accessible Amsterdam Fashion Week App.
Programme Director of Amsterdam Fashion Week Carlo Wijnands: “This edition, the opening of the catwalk programme is dedicated to innovation and talent, in both commerce and design. For the opening night I have therefore chosen Spijkers en Spijkers – a commercially innovative design label – and MaryMe-JimmyPaul, a designer duo that pushes the boundaries between art and fashion. Both have their own worlds in which they give substance to innovation and talent.”
About Spijkers en Spijkers
Spijkers en Spijkers is the label by the designers and twin sisters Spijkers, established in 2001. The sisters are inseparable and complement each other perfectly: Truus is the painter who thinks in style and colours, while Riet is the sculptor, turning their mutual ideas into three dimensional pieces. They like to work with clear geometrical forms, and use them to emphasise the female body in a strong and independent way. The twin designers have an historical fascination with the 1920’s that clearly reflects in their designs. With the commercially innovative ready to wear collection SIS, Spijkers en Spijkers is a source of inspiration to other Dutch fashion designers. The opening show SIS by Spijkers en Spijkers is made possible in part by Colgate MaxWhite One Luminous, which focuses on fashionable and confident young women with a bright smile.
About MaryMe-JimmyPaul
The fashion label MaryMe-JimmyPaul was established in 2008 by Marie Burlot and Jimmy Paul and covers the area that exists between art and fashion. The designers take their inspiration from their self-created worlds, people and stories and their view on the current and past pop culture. By constantly pushing the boundaries of shape, texture and colour and with their big, sculptural works, they raise eyebrows but also create a surprising look and evoke feeling. MaryMe-JimmyPaul takes the viewer on a journey into a beautiful, eerie, humorous, bizarre and grandiose fantasy fashion world. This results in an explosion in the face, like a Bugs Bunny cartoon. With the help of Vodafone, the opening show by MaryMe-JimmyPaul will be a real spectacle.
