AIR SUPERIORITY: NIKE’S LATEST INNOVATIONS

In Spring 2014, Nike celebrates the power of its innovation with the release of three new versions of the Air Max 90— the Nike Air Max Lunar90, Air Max 90 Jacquard and Air Max 90 Ice.

One of the more popular silhouettes in the Air Max family, the Air Max 90’s iconic midsole and upper components are the perfect canvas to lionize Nike’s pinnacle technologies: Lunarlon foam, no-sew construction, jacquard weaving and Phylon.

A decade after Nike Air was introduced as a cushioning system, a revolution was born. Using visible air, legendary Nike designer Tinker Hatfield forever changed the design of running sneakers and developed a new ethos for Nike’s approach to innovation; letting innovation speak for itself. Nike Air Max would become one of the most recognizable sneaker families, worn and coveted all over the world. The overwhelming success of the Air Max line proves that sneaker technology not only provides performance benefits, but can also create new aesthetics.

Special color combinations are available in March at sneaker boutiques: Ministry of Concrete, Phat Soles and Device 1.

Georgina Delinanou for SOMF Spring Summer 2014

Georgina Delinanou is captured by Panos Davios for SOMF's spring summer 2014 collection. Styled by Markos Andriotis and Elena Psalti, hair & make up by Dimitris Sarantou

The SOMF Spring-Summer 2014 collection looks back on the all-time-classic SOMF pieces, adding an extra touch of Krayola block colours to the mix. This season’s somfette, is a tough ghetto-chic lady, with a penchant for layering and the right kind of 90’s nostalgia. She’s influenced by a tribal consciousness, often visible in the prints and repeated motifs but never looses her elegance and goes for the unexpected midi skirt, as long as it’s sheer!
Pin up inspired deux pieces, mixed in with urban sweat styles and laser cut evening dresses, create a wardrobe that takes a cue from the underground dance divas of the West Coast, breathes in the eternal sunshine of the Greek Summer and takes a walk on the dark side.

The collection is available from mid March.

About SOMF

The SOMF label, was created by Mariaflora Lehec and Olivia Efstathiou, as a natural progress of their late night debates on style and aesthetics. Mariaflora is a Central Saint Martins Fashion Design graduate now based in Athens, who has worked alongside some of Britain’s leading fashion designers and is currently developing the SOMF brand separately, as Olivia has recently relocated back to London to pursue a career in graphic/web design.
SOMF was developed as a Greek based women’s apparel brand, aiming to create garments that would last in time and blend in any wardrobe. It boasts numerous collaborations with music artists and household brands, was presented during Fashion Flash organised by Ozon magazine and has been featured on some of the most prestigious Greek and International based magazines and websites. Their most recognisable staples are their trompe l’oeil tattoo leggings and tops, laser cut styles that use repetitive ancient Greek symbols and tongue in cheek prints.

A world of colours @ Benetton

Benetton introduces its colors for spring 2014, filling the closet with a wide range.

Spring, by its very nature, means renewal and revival after the cold winter days. And what could be better than color to express the desire to get out to the countryside, to rediscover the world around us and have some fun outside the four walls of the house?

Historically, the United Colors of Benetton was the starting point to fill our wardrobe with bright and vivid colors.
According to the philosophy of the brand, the must have for spring 2014 will be: jeggings in many different colors.
Rubber, cotton, skinny fit to emphasize the shape of the body in a variety of ultra-bright colors.

Pink, red, turquoise, lime green, mint, and white and blue. The youthful spirit and sense of  these pieces is an invitation to express your taste and personality through an entertaining styling.
The colored jeggings can be combined with knitted navy, 60's shirts or floral tops.
A world in colors that inspire positivity, love for life and dynamism with also a more romantic side. This is the young woman of United Colours of Benetton in all its aspects, which lives intensely, but looks to the future with the hope that many dreams will come true!

With the aim of achieving long-lasting improvements in the areas of education, clean water and strengthening women, the H&M Conscious Foundation is to support UNICEF, WaterAid and CARE. These three separate global programs for change will start from February 2014 and they will receive a total of SEK 180 million over a three-year period.

The global programs with UNICEF, WaterAid and CARE aim to drive change within each focus area by supporting new policies and thereby help create long-lasting improvements.

“I congratulate the H&M Conscious Foundation for choosing to support programs in three areas that are critical to sustainable development. The donation can contribute to big breakthroughs in each area”, says Professor Jeffrey D. Sachs – Director, Earth Institute, Columbia University and Special Advisor to United Nations Secretary-General on the Millennium Development Goals.

Investing in children’s early education and development– for the best start in life The aim of the education program, driven by UNICEF, is to place early childhood development on the global agenda so that more children achieve their full developmental potential. The goal is that by 2017 73,600 children from the most vulnerable groups, will attend preschool education and thus be more prepared for learning.

“The new partnership with the H&M Conscious Foundation is an important example of an alliance that will help mobilise support and harness innovation to unleash the potential of children, everywhere”, says Leila Pakkala, UNICEF Director of Private Fundraising and Partnerships.

Investing in clean water and sanitation in schools – to offer children a better future

The global program on clean water, driven by WaterAid, will change the lives of 250,000 schoolchildren by ensuring their access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene by 2017.The program will also seek to influence policies at national level and advocate for universal access to water and sanitation in the new global development framework.

“This unique partnership with the H&M Conscious Foundation will change children’s lives immensely. By ensuring that both girls and boys have an equal chance to stay in school and learn in a safe and healthy environment, we will allow them to fulfil their potential and provide a promising future. The H&M Conscious Foundation’s funding helps us in our aim to ensure that everyone, everywhere, has safe water and sanitation by 2030”, says Barbara Frost, Chief Executive of WaterAid International.

Investing in women’s’ economic empowerment – a catalyst for positive change The global program for change with CARE aims to focus on empowering women in poor communities economically and to inspire and offer advice on policy changes needed worldwide to allow women’s full participation in all walks of life. By 2017, the goal is for 100,000 women in developing countries to have access to tools, knowledge, skills or seed capital, enabling them to start or expand small enterprises in order to empower them economically.

“With the generous commitment and support of the H&M Conscious Foundation we can fulfil our mission and bring about lasting change in the lives of many women and girls, their families and communities around the world. We will be able to work on practical, innovative and sustainable solutions to one of the most important issues of our time”, says CARE’s Secretary General Dr. Robert Glasser.

Don't want to substitute style for ethics?

Well now you don't have to! Bibico is a fair trade clothing label that designs fashionable clothes that are ethically produced in fair trade cooperatives. Founded by Spanish designer Nieves Ruiz Ramos an ex Zara designer, bibico's collections have a chic but timeless appeal about them as well as being affordably priced.

Since established in 2007, Bibico has been working with fair trade cooperatives in India and Nepal who employ women from poor and disadvantaged backgrounds. The women are given training, a fair wage as well as sharing part of the profits of the cooperative. The goal of the cooperatives is to provide the tools for the women to empower themselves out of poverty.

"We've always wanted to make sure that no one making our clothes is being taken advantage of. By working with fair trade certified producers we can guarantee this and at the same time produce fashionable collections" says bibico founder Nieves Ruiz Ramos.

The collection includes a selection of dresses, tunics and tops made in anunique polka dot and floral print, as well as some classic Bretton stripes. Their thick handmade cotton knitwear is perfect for Spring and reflects a real country chic feel. Finer summer knitwear styles include cute polka dotcardi’s and more classic stripes. The collection is designed for women with a natural, casual chic style.
