OBJECT shows limited editions and unique pieces. Special furniture, interior design and home accessories as well as striking installations in the field of fashion, art and architecture, made in different materials and using different techniques. The fair takes place aboard the historic steamship SS Rotterdam, La Grande Dame of the Holland - America Line. For three days the fair for contemporary design is on display in several rooms, hotel rooms and on indoor and outdoor decks of the impressive ship. And for the first time the huge engine rooms are opened to the public.
In these spectacular rooms Workshop of Wonders shows many special seats from 100 years of Dutch Design Chair. From contemporary designers and classic design brands, from Gerrit Rietveld to Scholten & Baijings.
Another must see is the pool designed by architect Maaskant, which is filled with design by Tuttobene, design label and agency, it will present work by no less than 16 Dutch designers, including Mae Engelgeer and Mieke Meijer.
The banquet and dining rooms of the ship, hotel rooms and the various decks OBJECT Rotterdam has launched a large number of furniture designs, textile plants, designer lighting and fashion accessories from emerging talents. Highlights are the bricks of coffee by Rietveld Academy graduate Mayra Sérgio, organic jewellery by Sae Honda and the magic lamps by Onno Adriaanse, just graduated from the Design Academy. Other examples include the furniture made of recycled paper WooJai Lee or the subtle textures of leather by Sally Schoen, graduate of HKU.
For the first time OBJECT Rotterdam also presents vintage design. On Sunday, February 12th at 3pm, an auction organized at the fair in cooperation with Zuydwal Auctions. Under the hammer are vintage pieces of Copier, Gispen and Pirelli, but also prototypes and special editions of contemporary designers.
