Fashion & Catwalk Photography by Patricia Reports - The Book

Saal Digital offered me to review its photo book. For me an opportunity to select my favourite photos   and to create my first book full of fashion and catwalk photography.

Saal-Digital has its own software and it is easy to install. It offers a lot of templates and formats so you can create your own style.

As I didn't read how to use the software it was easy enough to get around the software. I imported my photos and 'play' with them to make the perfect combination of photos.

I downloaded the photo book to check if everything was OK but here I missed to browse through my book. All the pages were in a pdf so I scrolled down to see it all. I prefer flipping through it.

Before going to order your book the software reminds you if you made any mistakes or when you changed the amount of pages it asks you to review your cover. Also it reminds you as soon as you upload a photo if the resolution of the photo is of high quality.

I was happily surprised how fast my order was send to me. Ordering it on Tuesday I received it by courier on Saturday morning.

By opening the envelop I was amazed by the quality. The photos are sharp, the colours are great and the paper is of high quality. It made me very proud to see my photos in such high end quality, a great choice for my portfolio of high end fashion photography.

After ordering books from CEWE and Albelli my next photo book will be by Saal-Digital again!

Coco Rocha for Harper's Bazaar

My eye caught the impressive cover of Harper's Bazaar featuring Coco Rocha.
The model is lensed by Zhang Jingna and the photo reminds me of a painting of an Old Master in pastels.

I loved the colours, the combination of the light blue, the light green and white. The setting like a portrait from the 18th century, also the make up with the red blushes on her cheeks. The attitude of Coco makes the work complete.

Zhang Jingna did the cover and an editorial for Harper's Bazaar Vietnam and now the photo is also used for the cover of Harper's Bazaar Poland March's issue.

Harper's Bazaar Vietnam used this photo of Zhang Jingna for its cover but for me it doesn't ring the bells of art like the one used for the Polish issue.
What do you think?

The organisation was excellent and the atmosphere was great. So also a big thank you for all the people behind the scenes and of course the friendly hosts and hostesses.

Beyonce's pregnancy photos inspired by art

Almost everybody has seen the photos of Beyonce's pregnancy. As more than 10 million liked her photos on instagram. But what made this photo so special?

According to Ellen de Generes Beyonce was inspired by the Virgin Mary of Guadalupe, according to Wim Pijbes, she was inspired by the flemish painters Hendrik van Balen, Peter Paul Rubens and Jan Breughel the younger.

Jan Breughel The Younger                       Virgin Mary of Guadalupe                              Peter Paul Rubens

The garland of flowers stands for fertility and it is a great way of announcing her pregnancy in this way. As Ellen de Generes says she is expecting the savior, twice! Looking for a better world...

So a lot of hidden messages in this photo! Making it the talk of the world.

The use of well known art works is common in photography. Well know photographers are also getting their inspiration of it and art directors in fashion shoots.

Also Beyonce's interpretation of Venus van Urbino by Titian is worth to examine.

And the inspiration.

Titian took his inspiration from Giorgino's painting. So even in old days well-known artists copied or better to say got inspired by previous work.

Watch Wim Pijbes review on De Wereld draait door (only in dutch).

Michael Barnaart van Bergen @ OBJECT Rotterdam

Michael Barnaart van Bergen presents comfortable knitted dresses with graphic design at OBJECT Rotterdam.

As I showed you in my sneak preview of the design fair I was eager to see his dresses with my own eye and to touch them.

Michael decorated one of the cabins of the historic cruise ship SS Rotterdam. He presents here his pieces of art, that are produced in limited editions. His work can be seen on the street but also in musea.
Like the Mondrian dress, which was on display at the Barbican Art Gallery in Londen as part of the exhibition The Vulgar, Fashion redefined. And from the 3rd of March to be seen at the Belvedere Museum Winterpalais in Vienna, Austria.

The dresses have a comfortable touch and at some dresses the skirt part is double knitted for better fitting but also because the design isn't printed but knitted.

Besides his dresses he created also these broches.

The design fair OBJECT Rotterdam is open until the 12th of February!
