Flowerbomb in sparkling ribbons by Viktor & Rolf

The last day of August Viktor & Rolf announced the limited edition of Flowerbomb in sparkling ribbons for Xmas 2011..

"Flowerbomb is a floral explosion, a profusion of flowers that has the power to make everything to seem more positive. On application, the perfume's magically evocative notes will immediately awaken your deepest senses giving you the impression of living life in your own secret garden away from hard reality.

Flowerbomb is more than just a name, it has the strenght to make life more beautiful to give it wings. It is an antidote to reality, an expression of our dreams."

Kate Moss by Corinne Day

Corinne Day (19 February 1962 – 27 August 2010), was a British fashion photographer and documentary photographer. Last year on this date she passed away of brain tumor.

Cover photo for The Face
Corinne Day captured Kate Moss as the model in an eight-page fashion story for The Face (magazine) in July 1990. The story showcased garments by Gigli, Joseph Tricot, Ralph Lauren, and a feather head-dress from the now-defunct Covent Garden boutique World. The photographs, which include one depicting Moss topless and another in which it is implied that she was naked, are some of the first published fashion photographs of Moss, who was sixteen at the time.
It was the start of Kate Moss career, discovered by Corinne Day.

Stella Tennant for Vogue Italia September 2011

Stella Tennant by Steven Meisel
Vogue Italia wrote about their cover the following:
Beyond elegance. It was a style choice, but especially one of love (her husband liked her that way) that inspired Ethel Granger (1905-1982) to tighten herself into corsets that modified her waist up to the point of reaching a record measure of thirty-three centimeters, a limit that has not been surpassed to this day.

A revolutionary woman, who, also to indulge her husband’s tastes, did not hesitate to have dozens of piercings done back in the Fifties. She is the inspiration behind this cover and the fashion shoot interpreted by an intense Stella Tennant. Who, to emphasize Ethel’s decisive and distinctive allure, wears an exclusive perfume, beyond any olfactory stereotype, like Infusion d’Iris by Prada.

In the bouquet, the precious elegance of the Florentine iris pallida combined with the freshness of the Sicilian mandarin and with a mix of galbanum, mastic, incense, vetiver and cedar wood. Gabardine nattée single-breasted coat with contrasting collar, Prada. Earrings and ear studs, Lynn Ban; pearl studs, Fenton; nose ring, Ugo Cacciatori; corset Deborah Milner. Hair Guido for Redken. Make-up Pat McGrath. Manicure Jin Soon Choi for Jin Soon Natural Hand & Foot Spa. Fashion editor Karl Templer.

Louise Dahl-Wolfe Painting with Light

Louise Dahl-Wolfe is one of the most important women in the history of photography, and in this short documentary film on her life, Louise Dahl-Wolfe: Painting with Light, draws upon the excellence of her art and the quirkiness of her personality.

Louise Dahl-Wolfe (1895-1989) is known primarily for her work for Harper's Bazaar, in association with fashion editor Diana Vreeland.
Her work had enormous impact on great photographers such as Richard Avedon and Irving Penn. Working for Harper's Bazaar, she pioneered the use of natural lighting in fashion photography and shooting on location and outdoors.

Robert Doisneau, pioneer in street fashion photography

Robert Doisneau was born in 1912 in Gentilly, France and he studied lithography but soon realised that his real passion was photography.  He worked for Renault as an adverting photograper but was sacked for constantly being late so made money from postcards for tourists in Paris.  After the war he was approched by French Vogue and worked as a fashion photographer for a while but his real passion was photojornalism and the streets of Paris and this is where he returned in 1951.

1951

Photojornalism and Street Photography was Robert Doisneau style of photography, he wanted to capture the surreal in everyday life, that moment of something amusing, the shear act of human nature.

Whilst photographing the streets of Paris as a freelance photographer he sold photographs to Life and other international magazine.  He has done many exhibitions around the world in many galleries and together with Henri Cartier Bresson is considered the pioneer of Street Photography.

The Kiss is probably Doisneau most famous photograph taken in 1950 of a couple kissing in the busy streets of Paris.  The couples indentity remained unknown until 1992.  Jean and Denise Lavergne believed they were the couple in the photograph and Doisneau let then believe this as he did not want to shatter their dream.  The subsequently took him to court because under French Law an individual owns the right to their own likeness.  This then forced Doisneau to reveal he had posed the shot using Francoise Delbart and Jacques Carteaud.  He had seen the couple kissing and asked them to stage the shot as he would not have dared to just shoot them without them knowing.

George Michael's Symphonica - The Orchestral Tour kicks off in Prague

George Michael wowed fans on the first date of his tour. The singer welcomed the audience to "a very different evening with George Michael".

George Michael in the Olympic Stadion of Athens

Accompanied by a symphony orchestra, the star played a sell-out concert at the Prague State Opera House.
The intimate venue provided the backdrop for covers of My Baby Just Cares For Me and True Faith as well as for the opportunity to come clean about his relationship.

He said the break-up with Kenny had prompted him to write a song called Where I Hope You Are.

Michael also paid tribute to singer Amy Winehouse, who died last month. He said it was unbelievably heartbreaking that there would be no more music from her.

In the interview for the tour programme, he further spoke of getting into trouble with the law, saying he deserved to be jailed last year for crashing his Range Rover after smoking marijuana.

He said he felt going to jail was karma, adding: "I had a bill to pay and I thought that prison was a logical conclusion to a very long, dark chapter."

There are currently 65 shows on the European leg of Symphonica - The Orchestral Tour, I hope he will be adding Athens too!

On October 25 he will be in Great Brittain for a performance at the Royal Albert Hall.

Henri Cartier Bresson, pioneer of street fashion photography

Henri Cartier Bresson was the pioneer of today's popular street fashion photography. An inspiration for a lot of photographers.

Marseille 1932

Henri Cartier-Bresson (1908 - 2004) was a French photographer considered to be the father of modern photojournalism. He was an early adopter of 35 mm format and the master of candid photography. In 1932 he first used a Leica and his life-long passion for photography started.
He was one of the founders of Magnum Photos.

One of his famous photo's: Behind the Gare St. Lazare in Paris 1932

Lisa Perry's Pop art

Lisa Perry combines her love of Pop Art and fashion with a collection of dresses using Roy Lichtenstein images. In cooperation with the Estate of Roy Lichtenstein, she selected three of the artist's most iconic work: 'Spray' 1962, 'On' 1962 and 'No thank you' 1964

Also she created a T-shirt line with four of Lichtenstein's work.
This collection is a follow up of her Andy Warhol cooperation in 2011 with photographers Nat Finkelstein and Carl Fischer.

Roy Lichtenstein (1923 - 1997) was a prominent pop artist in the sixties.

It started with the New Look - Will Marc be the successor?

In 1947 Christian Dior launches the Corolle collection. Carmel Snow, editor of Harper's Bazaar says: "Your dresses have such a new look" and  the 'New Look' name was born. Since than the fashion world is talking about the New Look by Dior.

Christian Dior (1905 to 1957) became the most influential fashion designer of the late 1940s and 1950s. He dominated fashion after World war II with the hourglass silhouette of his New Look. He also defined a new business model in the post-war fashion industry by establishing Dior as a global brand across a wide range of products.

Pierre Cardin worked as the head of Christian Dior atelier in from 1947 to 1950 and than started his own house.

Starting as assistant in 1954, Yves Saint Laurent became creative director after the death of Dior,  until 1958. Followed by Marc Bohan (1958-1989), Gianfranco Ferré (1989 - 1997) and John Galliano (1997 - Fall 2011).
At the moment there is a whispering that Marc Jacobs will be the next creative director...
