Saturday I was impressed by the wonderful exhibition Haute-à-Porter at the Fashion Museum Hasselt (
Modemuseum Hasselt) in Belgium.
An exhibition exploring questions about haute couture and prêt-à-porter, how closely are haute couture and prêt-à-porter connected, but also about the creative process and sources of inspiration.
Curator Filep Motwary: "It's the first time that the relationship between haute couture and prêt-à-porter is examined in the form of an exhaustive exhibition and also the first time that somebody argues that prêt-à-porter is overcoming haute couture."
The exhibition is divided in several themes with a selection of spectacular silhouettes from high-end designers and fashion houses. The themes are crinoline, volume, decorations and prints, draping, corsets and the classics.
The garments are eye-catching but also the stuffed animals are interesting. Filep Motwary added the animals to exhibition to show us that humans need clothes to beautify their appearance, while the animals are just beautiful the way they are! And besides this, wildlife is also an inspiration for the fashion industry!
Each theme I will explore in following posts but let us have a glimpse of the themes and the exhibition!
The first salon is really WOW! With dresses by Christian Dior, John Galliano, Thierry Mugler, Commes des Garcons, Yohji Yamamoto and Viktor & Rolf and on top a moose!
Each salon is a joy to visit and I agree with Vogue that this exhibition is more than worth visiting!
Here a glimpse of the themes and salons of the exhibition and more to explore in following posts.
