AMSTERDAM FASHION WEEK OPENS CATWALK PROGRAMME

The catwalk programme of the 19th edition of Amsterdam Fashion Week started yesterday, on Friday the 12th of July with shows by SIS by Spijkers en Spijkers and MaryMe-JimmyPaul.

The opening – and this edition’s entire catwalk programme – is dedicated to talent and innovation, in both commerce and design.
Until Tuesday the 16th of July, many young Dutch designers and established labels will show their collections to (inter)national fashion professionals. Everyone can watch the shows live via www.amsterdamfashionweek.com and via free App, developed by principal partner Vodafone.

“As always, Spijkers en Spijkers has showed a well-balanced collection. The sisters take you on a journey to the sixties of Brigitte Bardot; it is fresh and summery”, said programme director of Amsterdam Fashion Week Carlo Wijnands. “With SIS they again prove to be skilled at translating their extreme creativity into a ready-to-wear collection, while upholding their well-known handwriting. Spijkers en Spijkers forms a source of inspiration to other Dutch fashion designers.”

Carlo Wijnands said the following about the catwalk show and the collection of MaryMe-JimmyPaul: “Marie Burlot and Jimmy Paul operate at the borderland between fashion and art. Other disciplines always play an important role in their collections and together with Vodafone they have created a type of interaction that perfectly fits their identity.

MaryMe-JimmyPaul showed again that fashion is more than just a cliché of what we thínk fashion should be.”

About Spijkers en Spijkers
Spijkers en Spijkers is the label by the designers and twin sisters Spijkers, established in 2001. The sisters are inseparable and complement each other perfectly: Truus is the painter who thinks in style and colours, while Riet is the sculptor, turning their mutual ideas into three- dimensional pieces. They like to work with clear geometrical forms, and use them to emphasise the female body in a strong and independent way.

About MaryMe-JimmyPaul
The fashion label MaryMe-JimmyPaul was established in 2008 by Marie Burlot and Jimmy Paul and covers the grey area between fashion and art. The designers take their inspiration from their self-created worlds, people and stories and their view on the current and past pop culture. By constantly pushing the boundaries of shape, texture and colour and with their big, sculptural works, they raise eyebrows but also create a surprising look and evoke feelings. MaryMe-JimmyPaul takes the viewer on a journey into a beautiful, eerie, humorous, bizarre and grandiose fantasy fashion world. This results in a climax of cuteness, a visual statement with hints and undertones of satire, showing aspects of the current pop culture and social media; an explosion in the face, like a Bugs Bunny cartoon.
